The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to set resolutions, but let’s be honest most of those goals won’t make it through the first month.

But if your resolution was to lose weight here is something to get you started. According to the Center For Disease Control and Prevention 35.7% of adults are obese. That’s one third of the United States population! This has many related diseases that could lead to health complications.

Here at Great Harvest in Spokane we want you to accomplish that resolution that will make you look and feel great! That’s why we made a list of tips what will help you lose those extra pounds.

Set Goals

The first thing you have to do is stay motivated and you can do that by setting short term goals. Staying fit for your children is a powerful motivation that could get you going and why not giving yourself a treat any now and then. Remember this is a marathon not a 100 meter race.

Chew Slowly

We know that you have a hectic schedule that sometimes gets in the way of your meal. Focus on what you are eating; smell, taste and while you are at it do it slowly. You should chew each bite at least 30 times.

Don’t Eat If You Are Under Stress

A stress reaction is eating, you can avoid it if you find an activity to take its place: meditation, yoga or anything that clears your mind are recommended!

Exercise

Get off that couch and start doing a sport! It will help to speed your metabolism and it will burn calories! If you don’t have time for a workout start taking healthy choices: Take the stairs instead of elevator, walk or take your bike to work or look for quick workouts!

Whole Foods

Fiber foods take much longer to digest that means they make you feel full! Fruits and vegetables, beans and whole grains are your best option!

According to the USDA the average grain recommended is 6-8 ounces and you can find it at the Great Harvest products; muffins, scones, cookies and of course the best bread in Spokane that is not only delicious but also healthy. For inquiries about us or our products please call (509) 535-1146.
