After a few days, bread will become hard. For many, this means it’s time to dispose of it. But before you put it in the garbage, there are a few things you can do with it.

Stale bread offers a consistency that many foods demand. That’s why at Great Harvest in Spokane, we have some ideas that could be useful for that leftover bread in your pantry.

Bread Pudding

This dessert is very popular around the world, that’s why there are many ways to prepare it. For this recipe you will need: 6 slices of bread, 2 tablespoons of butter, 4 beaten eggs, 2 cups of milk, 3 spoons of sugar and one teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Preheat your oven to 175 degrees C. In the mean time, put the bread on a baking pan and smear the melted butter on it.

In a bowl, mix the eggs with milk, sugar and the vanilla extract. Pour the mix over the bread, and allow it to soak it up. Now, put the pan in the oven for about 50 minutes. Enjoy!

Bruschetta

This Italian appetizer has become an all time favorite! To prepare it, slice your loaf and grill it. You can smear garlic on it. Meanwhile, slice 3 fresh tomatoes and basil. Mix them in a bowl and add olive oil, pepper and salt. Top your bread with the mixture. It’s that simple!

These are just a couple ideas you can do with your stale bread. Remember that as long as it doesn’t have mold, it can still be used!

Stale bread is also a signal that it’s time to go to the bakery for a fresh loaf. Remember that if you are looking for the most tasteful bread in Spokane, Great Harvest has an incredible menu that uses whole wheat flour.
