Make Vietnamese Spring Rolls
Vietnamese spring rolls are a delicious and healthy snack or meal option. The fresh ingredients will go well with just about any dipping sauce you choose to use. While most people assume spring rolls are hard to put together, they're actually quite easy to make. Even if you've never worked with rice paper before, you'll get the hang of it quickly.
Ingredients for Vietnamese Spring Rolls
The ingredients used for spring rolls aren't strict, they can vary depending on what you have on hand and the flavors you prefer. Here is a list of some sample ingredients, but feel free to change it up.
- 10 sheets of round rice paper
- Cooked rice noodles
- Carrots
- Lettuce
- Cucumber
- Bean sprouts
- Cilantro
- Cooked shrimp
Your rice noodles should be cooked and set aside to dry before using them in spring rolls. Prepare the vegetable components by julienning them (cutting them into long thin strips). It's a good idea to cut your shrimp down the middle in order to remove some of their bulkiness.
How to Make a Spring Roll
Once you've prepared your ingredients, pull up a bowl of water for your rice paper. Rice paper is pretty stiff and needs to be softened in water. Submerge your sheet of rice paper in water for a couple seconds and then place it on a tea towel. Place your ingredients on one-third of the rice paper. Try not to overfill the area because this will make it harder to roll. Once you're satisfied with the contents, fold in the sides of the rice paper and start rolling. Do your best to get a tight roll so that the filling doesn't fall out as you bite into them.
